All the while this was going on, the Club was undergoing its own refurbishment. The function room was demolished, including, as some older villagers may know, the huge snooker room above it. The two snooker tables housed there were sold - (how did they get them out??) -and all fixtures and fitting from the old club were either put into storage or, like the snooker tables, sold off. The Club was gutted and it was difficult to see how it would all turn out
We shouldn’t have worried! In January 2006, the Club reopened, a lot smaller, granted, but smart, clean, bright and welcoming. Sue and Pat, who had held the Stewardship of the Club previously, stayed for a few months to ensure a smooth handover, and in April 2006 they moved to Nottingham to enjoy their retirement. Ann Somerville took over as Stewardess and is still currently pulling pints today!
The Club has been open now for two years, and, while membership is thriving, we feel that many of the villagers don’t realise it is a VILLAGE CLUB - open to all. The Club is run by an elected committee of members FOR the members. It is very much a family club, children are very welcome and don’t forget - it is a no smoking venue now!!
We have pool and darts facilities, and on Sunday nights we hold a light hearted (actually deadly serious!!) quiz. Are you a budding Quiz Whizz? It costs 50 pence per person to enter and the winning team takes all.
On some Saturday nights we run Killer Pool and Darts and once a month have our popular CASH BINGO nite, plus our successful Race Nights and Music Quizzes. A year’s membership of the Club is £8.00.
Yes you did read that correctly - just £8.00!!!! Why don’t you come down and try before you buy – that’s the Club, not the beer!
Speaking of the beer, we are a non profit making club so anything we make is ploughed back into the club to benefit the members and we keep our prices realistic ~ you’ll struggle to find many places cheaper than us in Surrey! Why not pay us a visit, and find out more?
